Intermediate to Advanced Photography

Suitable for participants who's already taken the Basic To Intermediate class, and understand the fundamental concepts of digital photography such as aperture, shutter speed, ISO and white balance, the Intermediate to Advanced class takes participant further by covering the following topics:
Practical session
Getting Tack Sharp Photos
Learn the tricks and tips in getting absolutely sharp photos because no photo is worth its salt if it's out of focus or blurry.
Learn how to:
  • Choose the best aperture to get the sharpest photo.
  • Learn what shutter speed to use by visually determining motion speed.
  • Handle low light situation shooting with correct shooting technique.
  • Employ various methods to reduce camera shake.
  • Choose the best ISO-Aperture-Shutter combination to nail that perfect shot.

Advanced Settings Knowledge
Understanding how the camera works will ensure you get the best of out your camera's capabilities.
Learn about:
  • Differences between file formats, sizes and compression to make full use of your DSLR's resolution and choose the best image setting for any occasion.
  • Learn the secrets of file size to output ratios.
  • White balance in in-depth, how to use Kelvin temperature settings instead of automatic presets, and how to fool your WB settings to give you the mood you want.
  • Colour space: the differences between Adobe and sRGB and when to use which mode.
  • True Aperture stops and how it can improve your shooting technique.
  • Making sense of your camera's Histogram like a Pro.

Beyond Manual mode
Participants will learn how to make full use of the Aperture-priority and Shutter priority modes. Knowing when to use these modes instead of Manual can make a huge difference between capturing moments and fiddling with the many options and settings on your DSLR.
Learn about:
  • Shooting Aperture priority the correct way.
  • Shooting Shutter Speed priority correctly.
  • Exposure compensation and when to use them.
  • Bracketing.
  • Learn how to use other exposure modes such as Night Modes, Portrait Modes and still get amazing results.
  • In-depth metering modes, and how to use the best mode for any situation.
  • taking your exposure from good to breath-taking (by using 18% grey and the Zoning System).
  • Using AEL-AFL button to lock down exposure values and/or focusing distance.


Advanced Composition Techniques
From F.A.C.T (Framing, angle, colours and tilting) to the 6 C's of getting great photos, we leave no room for chances. Understand the advanced composition techniques and learn to frame like a master. Get to know techniques such as:
  • Candidness (learn how to invoke candidness out of your subjects)
  • Context
  • Coverage
  • Contrast
  • Closeness
  • Curves (S and C)

You will also learn when these rules should be broken (and how to break them) and still create breath-taking photos.

Meals: 2 tea breaks and 1 lunch provided

Every participant will receive a Nikonian Certificate (with 2 Credit Point)
